Become a swimming
pool specialist
There are many trade
secrets that contractors do not want you to know.
Some of these secrets are their prices and how they
come up with the price for your remodel project. At
Amazing Pools & Spas, Inc., we are more concerned
with providing you with great service, workmanship,
and an excellent result. We are not afraid to let
you know our prices and let you do your shopping
with more information.
We would like you to
be as involved with the remodeling process as
possible. That is why we developed our self-bidding
remodeling process. This process is designed to
allow you to measure all the important components of
your backyard remodel. This way you can get an
estimate on your time, not ours. No staying home
and waiting for contractors to show up, no missing
your lunch hour at work, and no strangers in your
backyard.
All you will need to
perform this task is a measuring wheel you can
purchase from your local hardware/home improvement
store. It will cost you approximately $35.00 for a
decent one.
NOTE:
This section is designed to assist you in obtaining
prices for simple remodels such re-plastering,
re-tiling, & re-coping your pool or spa, and laying
new decking. Remodels that are more complex need
more measurements and formulas to make sure it is
done properly. Also, upon your
request for us to perform any work, we will need
to confirm all measurements taken before sending you
a formal proposal.
How to estimate your swimming
pool backyard remodel
Measuring
your swimming pool:
Most contractors base
their prices on the linear footage, or perimeter, of
the structure. Be sure to set your measuring wheel
to measure feet.
Pool only:
Choose a reference
point along your swimming pool. A typical point of
reference is a railing or concrete joint line.
After choosing your reference point, start running
your measuring wheel from the reference point,
around the edge of your swimming pool, and back to
your reference point. This will give you the
perimeter of the structure. Multiply the perimeter
by the price of your desired coating on our
remodeling spreadsheet.
Spa only:
Please note there is
a 70 foot minimum on the price to resurface a spa
only structure. Most likely, your spa will be less
than 70 feet. You may want to skip this step if a
spa is all you have.
If you still want to measure the structure, follow
the same instructions as measuring the swimming
pool.
Pool/Spa combo:
Treat the pool and
spa as if they were two different structures.
Choose a reference point for both structures. You
can even choose a point where both structures meet
and use it to measure both structures. After
choosing your reference point, start running your
measuring wheel from the reference point, around the
edge of your swimming pool, and back to your
reference point. Then do the same for the spa
structure. You will notice that the area where the
pool and spa share a section of wall will have been
measured twice. This will give you the perimeter of
the structure. Multiply the perimeter by the price
of your desired coating on our remodeling
spreadsheet.
Measuring
your deck:
Most contractors base their prices on the total
square footage of the area to be worked on. Be sure
to set your measuring wheel to feet.
When you are dealing
with a large rectangular concrete deck with nothing
in the middle of it, finding the square footage is
simple (length x width). However, if the area of
decking you wish to change encompasses another
structure, such as a swimming pool, the trick is to
break the deck into multiple rectangles. Then
measure each rectangles square footage and add the
totals (be sure not to measure over the same area
twice). This sum will be the total square footage
of the area you wish to change.
If you have areas of
your deck that are rounded, gain approximate square
footages by creating squares or rectangles where the
rounded parts take up about half of the area.
Measure the length and the width and divide that
number by half.
